چکیده

In the future, home-care management will probably involve intelligent conversational assistants, which support patients at home through natural language interfaces. These conversational assistants should support sophisticated grammar formalisms enriched with non-trivial syntactic and semantics representations, in order to provide an effective human-computer interaction by means of language understanding and generation. We explore here the Combinatory Categorial Grammar formalism, which stands at the roots of computational linguistics and is devoted to the linguistic theory. Furthermore, we present the practical implementation of an Italian grammar for hypertensive patients monitoring following this formalism. The grammar enables patients to communicate freely her health status including symptoms, measurements (blood pressure, cardiac frequency and weight) and habits during the dialogue. It references physiological conditions, symptoms, habits and other concepts related to the hypertensive patients care domain, for the purpose of increasing users expressivity in dialogues. This grammar belongs to a dialogue system prototype which pursues the application of computational linguistics dialogue theories in the medical domain.

Lambek Grammars as Combinatory Categorial Grammars

We propose a combinatory reformulation of the product free version of the categorial calculus LL, i.e. the associative Lambek calculus that admits empty premises. We prove equivalence of the combinatory with the standard Natural Deduction presentation of LL. The result offers a new perspective on the relation between the type logical and the combinatory branch of the Categorial Grammar research...

Linguistic Issues in Language Technology – LiLT

This article introduces Discourse Combinatory Categorial Grammar (DCCG) and shows how it can be used to generate multisentence paraphrases, flexibly incorporating both intraand intersentential discourse connectives. DCCG employs a simple, practical approach to extending Combinatory Categorial Grammar (CCG) to encompass coverage of discourse-level phenomena, which furthermore makes it possible t...

An HDP Model for Inducing Combinatory Categorial Grammars

We introduce a novel nonparametric Bayesian model for the induction of Combinatory Categorial Grammars from POS-tagged text. It achieves state of the art performance on a number of languages, and induces linguistically plausible lexicons.

Combinatory Categorial Grammars: Generative Power and Relationship to Linear Context-Free Rewriting Systems

Recent results have established that there is a family of languages that is exactly the class of languages generated by three independently developed grammar formalisms: Tree Adjoining Grammm~, Head Grammars, and Linear Indexed Grammars. In this paper we show that Combinatory Categorial Grammars also generates the same class of languages. We discuss the slruclm'al descriptions produced by Combi...

Simple Robust Grammar Induction with Combinatory Categorial Grammars

We present a simple EM-based grammar induction algorithm for Combinatory Categorial Grammar (CCG) that achieves state-of-the-art performance by relying on a minimal number of very general linguistic principles. Unlike previous work on unsupervised parsing with CCGs, our approach has no prior language-specific knowledge, and discovers all categories automatically. Additionally, unlike other appr...
